Fernando Alonso never really lost touch with racing during his temporary retirement from Formula 1. This is because the man who loves racing with every fiber of his being continues to do so in other disciplines. In his time away, he conquered many formats like the Dakar Rally and even 24 hours of Le Mans, and that too twice. And probably wanting to do it the third time he has picked Max Verstappen as a part of his dream team.

Fernando Alonso only is one feat short of giving Graham Hill company as the winner of the triple crown. A triple crown signifies an F1 win at the Monaco GP or being a world champion, a win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and then an Indy500 win. While Fernando recently conceded his failure to capture the last one, he is rather eager to make win his third 24 Hours of Le Mans challenge.

As quoted by Formula Passion, Fernando said, “If there were the opportunity to race in Le Mans with Max in the future, I would certainly do it [he confirmed to the media] we are very good friends and we are always in touch. If I decide to do Le Mans again, I’d like to do it with Verstappen. You know that when you leave your car with your teammates on your way to rest, you’re leaving it with the best drivers, and therefore the car is in the best hands. It would be an honor.”

But does Verstappen want to do it? Yes, and no. He does want it, but perhaps not with the man declaring his love.

Max Verstappen has already chosen his partner, and it is not Fernando Alonso

Last year, Max Verstappen declared his wish to go for the endurance challenge. While the man he thinks should have had more championships declared his wish, which was to race with Verstappen. However, the latter had other plans. He wants to do it with a man who is often credited for shaping him; his father.

Max had said, “I would love to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I don’t know yet when it will happen. I’ve watched this race many times before and I was there even when my father was racing there. I think it’s a very good race. I want to participate in the future, but I will do it with my father.”
