The evolution of the F1 calendar over the past decade or so is one of the most notable changes in the modern era of the sport. Miami is added to the 2022 schedule while Las Vegas will also host a Grand Prix in 2023. More races guarantee more entertainment for the fans, without a doubt. However, it also takes a toll on the drivers and F1 teams.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has already hinted at an increased number of races in 2023. The schedule for this season involves 23 races. Formula 1 also has a regulation of up to 24 races a year currently and, with Las Vegas added, it reaches the limit. Sergio Perez, however, is not a fan of the grueling schedule planned. He admitted it could force him to retire from the sport.
Sergio Perez is not content with F1 adding more races
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez is a family man and admitted he wants to spend more time with his young family. The Mexican revealed he might not race again if Formula 1 adds more races to the ever-increasing schedule. However, he is happy with the fact that the sport is witnessing constant growth.

He said, “There’s a very big demand. But on the other hand, having too many races is a no-go — at least for me. Right now, you’re basically (immersed in) it because we have so many races. We have simulator sessions before each event. We have partner events.”

“So we basically we have zero time for ourselves and for our families. I have a couple of young children (with a third on the way). I think if the calendar (expands) more, then I definitely will not do it.”
Earlier, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali revealed the FIA is looking at potential venues to increase the number of races on the schedule. With Las Vegas already added, the Italian stated they are also exploring Africa and China as venues. According to him, there is a possibility of 30 races a season from 2023.
We all love to see our favorite drivers in action, but they are making plenty of sacrifices to race. They spend half the year away from home and family, racing almost every single weekend. But it just might be at the point where F1 is stretching itself too thin.
