The 35-year-old four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has left the sport with a plethora of experience. However, the extremely mature and socially aware German joined the sport as a young and carefree boy. With that said, his time at Red Bull was special and even Christian Horner agrees they “had a lot of fun” during those initial years.

Vettel joined Red Bull at the young age of 22 and this is exactly why his success at Red Bull was astonishing. The relatively new team had found their wonder boy, and the boy did make the most of the opportunity. Christian Horner also became the youngest team principal in the sport’s history after the Red Bull appointment.

In a way, Horner and Vettel grew up together during their time together at Red Bull. Reminiscing the times, Honer told Sky Germany, “Look, we just had a lot of fun and it was an incredible time. We were all growing up together. Just very, very happy memories, [Vettel was] a very special part of our team.”

However, there was one aspect of Vettel at Red Bull that Honer did not appreciate. “[Vettel] Never had a good haircut when he was with us. You tried everything! Bleached, shaved off, whatever,” said Horner jokingly.

This was long before Vettel was sporting his long, golden locks. We all make mistakes sometimes, especially when we’re young! Additionally, Vettel made a few! Despite that, Vettel was much easier to manage, according to Christian Horner.

However, when asked to compare the situation with the incident between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in Brazil, Hornor had an interesting answer. He said, “Compared to our current drivers, easy. They [Vettel and Webber] were a great pair.”
