Lance Stroll arrived at Formula 1 with a lot of promise after winning the F3 championship in 2016. He immediately delivered on the opportunity landing on the podium in his very first season with Williams. The 2022 season with Aston Martin has, however, not gone as per plan. Now a former F1 driver has warned the Canadian driver that his father could sack him from the team if he fails to deliver.

Lance Stroll became the second-youngest driver in the history of Formula 1 to secure a podium and the youngest to do the same in his rookie season. Since then, things have arguably gone down for the 24-year-old.

Would Lawrence Stroll sack his own son Lance Stroll if he does not perform?

Lance Stroll made a switch to Racing Point in 2019 after his father rebranded the team from Force India. Stroll failed to impress as he could not manage even half the points his teammate Sergio Perez scored. Lance’s teammate again comprehensively beat him on points in 2020, but still managed podium finishes in Monza and Sakhir. The team went through an overhaul as they rebranded themselves as Aston Martin in 2021 and brought in champion driver Sebastian Vettel.

In both seasons since then, the Canadian failed to beat Vettel on points, and if Former F1 star, Johnny Herbert, is to be believed, his father might be running out of patience.

Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Herbert told, “I sometimes think there is a certain time that, if it doesn’t quite happen, Lawrence has got to go ‘son, I’ve given you a chance. It isn’t quite working out. And I’ve got to do what’s right for the team’.”

Herbert continued, “I don’t exactly know when that will be, but it’s down to Lance actually to do the job that he needs to do and consistently do that job.”

Lawrence Stroll recently upped his stake in the team, acquiring a total of 23% of Aston Martin. An added share in the team has surely got to increase the pressure on him to deliver results.
