The 2020 F1 season is yet to get off the ground, and it is all thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Already, F1 postponed/cancelled several races and there is a threat of more races dropping out.

To that end, Silverstone boss, Stuart Pringle, revealed that the circuit is open to working out a revised schedule. The idea is for the iconic British circuit to host multiple races.

In the midst of the crisis, race organisers set an end of April deadline to make a decision. Only then will they decide on whether to postpone or cancel the British Grand Prix. However, the authorities are eyeing alternative options if a new 2020 season calendar is drafted.

Pringle pitched an idea where Silverstone hosts more than one Grand Prix later in the year. With regard to logistics, it makes perfect sense because it is more flexible than other venues.

Can F1 visit the UK multiple times?

“All I’ve done is say to Formula 1 we are willing to work with them in any way, shape or form that they think is in the best interests of the championship,” Pringle told Sky Sports F1.

“The majority of the teams are within a stone’s throw of the circuit, so operationally it would be pretty straightforward. We’ve got the fixed infrastructure, the staff could go home to their own beds of an evening in large parts, so if that’s how we can help then I’d be delighted to do that.”

Pringle stated that their infrastructure is permanent and they also have an experienced team on hand. They also know how to do their jobs and can allow themselves a buffer until April to make a decision.

He concluded, “We could run all the way through [the year] but there’s a reason we run in the British summer which is because it’s the most civilised time of the year.”

Pringle also noted the close proximity of the Wimbledon, the British Grand Prix and The Open golf events to each other. The Briton explained that that window offered the best chance of decent weather. In light of the global pandemic, they need to take time to review the viability of their July 19th date.
