Race after race, one thing is common, Lewis Hamilton is not happy with the way the W15 drives. He’s even said that the team is moving backward this season which is highly disappointing for the fans. This being his last season with Mercedes, Hamilton would have loved to drive a great farewell season, but things are heading anywhere but that. With this, Hamilton can only hope for the future upgrades to do the magic but how soon will Toto Wolff get to it is the question.

All the other teams are working on improving their car’s performance. Exhibits of which lie in McLaren’s performance in the Miami GP. But, Mercedes is falling off with Aston Martin right behind them with only a 22-point gap. McLaren got their upgrades and Ferrari is planning on implementing theirs soon. This leaves one wondering – when will it be Mercedes’ turn?

When we look at Mercedes and compare them to McLaren, the Papaya looks much stronger this season. This comes as a surprise as the MCL38 is powered by a Mercedes power unit. How is the customer team doing better than the manufacturers of the engine? While everyone is scratching their heads to find an answer, Lewis Hamilton has been asking for an upgrade.

In a recent interview with Motorsportweek, Toto Wolff spoke about where the team stands with the upgrades. He said, “I think we know what we do. In terms of what they’re bringing to the car, you can’t really rush it because you’ve got to get to the point where you say – ‘now it’s good to be released into production’.”

The Pundit then said, “Here’s hoping they do, because the upgraded McLaren looks to be closer to Red Bull, and Ferrari are eagerly looking forward to their imminent upgrades too.” All the teams are pushing harder to overtake Red Bull who has now lost Adrian Newey to make significant upgrades to the car. That being said, when Mercedes upgrades their car, we might see them creeping closer to the top 3 teams. They are all currently in triple-digit points.
