Every single day that goes by is a day closer to Lewis Hamilton nearing his contract end with Mercedes. This scenario has become the most talked about situation in the world of F1. Mercedes‘s stalled contract talks with their world champion have put many experts into overdrive as they come up with theories. Halfway through the season, we have heard many updates on the situation with all sources citing he’s going to extend. Although until Hamilton puts pen to paper it can go either way. Even the boss Toto Wolff is not oblivious to this situation as he revealed he’s doing everything in his power to make Hamilton stay.

Wolff is doing everything in his power to convince Hamilton. The team changed their car completely by discarding the zero pod concept. There are contact upgrades and there is definitely an upward trajectory in Mercedes’s developmental path. Although, rejecting Hamilton’s $25,000,000 ambassador role request might have not been the smartest move. Still, as expressed on BBC’s Desert Island Discs podcast and quoted by Daily Mail, Wolff is not letting a few million come in the way of his and Hamilton’s continued partnership.

“Well I very much hope so,” said Wolff when asked if he believes Hamilton will continue with Mercedes. “I’m doing everything I can to make him stay. I think there is no need to persuade him. He knows about all the goodness and although we struggled with the car this year, and last year, he will be part of the resurrection of the team,” Wolff added.

Wolff is doing everything in his power to make Hamilton extend. However, will that be enough? Well, with history as proof, it worked in 2016, so it might work in 2023 as well.

Toto Wolff also revealed the open communication policy with Lewis Hamilton

After yet another disappointing start to the season, many believed the Brit won’t extend his contract. However, the upgrades in Monaco came as a ray of hope. Although, these speculations gathered heat once again as he was asked to shut up and drive off during a race by the boss. The Austrian boss recently revealed in the BBC podcast, that’s part of his open communication relationship with the Brit. Something they established during the difficult contract talks in 2016.

‘The kind of analogy I gave to him is that also I have arguments with [my wife] Susie. Even if we shout at each other, which didn’t happen a lot, but even if we have this argument, there’s never a thought of divorcing,” said Wolff back in 2016.

“So we came to the conclusion that we can have conflict, we can create an atmosphere where we’re able to be brutally honest with each other, and sometimes we agree to disagree, but we move on,” and this was the outcome.

This analogy kept Hamilton at Brackley back in the day. Will this still stand true after a whole year and a half of misery? We will soon find out!
