Despite Sharing a Rocky Relationship Previously With His Dad, Lewis Hamilton Buries the Past to Wholeheartedly Wish Him on His Special Day

Lewis Hamilton has defined himself as more than a racing driver. Throughout his illustrious Formula 1 career, the 7x champion has proved his mettle on track, but the experiences off of it, and the way he outclassed them have stood testament to his character. Naturally, the bulk of his persona and grit is attributable to the 38-year-old himself. However, as it is with any great person, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes, too.

For Hamilton, the person who worked tirelessly behind the scenes was his father, Anthony Hamilton. Hamilton has on more than one occasion displayed his gratitude to his father who at one time worked four jobs to ensure that the young British racing ace could participate in competitions and climb up the motoring ladder. But this time around, Hamilton petitioned on behalf of his father for on a special occasion.

Today marks Anthony Hamilton’s birthday. And Hamilton took this opportunity to petition his fans to make his day even more special. Hamilton did have a rocky past with his father after expelling him as his manager. However, after everything his father went through to ensure that his son became the greatest F1 driver ever, Hamilton ensured he repaid the favor.

Hamilton has a massive social media following. He hence took to his social media account on Instagram to share his father’s birthday wish. He wrote, “Everyone wish my Dad a happy birthday. Thank you for all the love, the lessons, and for always pushing me to be better. Happy birthday big man.”

Hamilton once told PEOPLE Magazine, “I think probably every parent wants the best for their kids. My dad, he never went out. He never had new clothes. He wasn’t saving up to buy anything new. Everything — remortgaging the house multiple times — went into go-karting, which sounds crazy. It is crazy, but he believed so much in me.”

“He’s the real hero, but obviously I’m the one that gets to stand on top of the podium at the end.”
