Only a handful of drivers have been accorded the status of being a legend in this sport. 7x champion, Michael Schumacher is one of them. While Schumacher has already redefined the meaning of success in Formula 1, a young charger has now set his sights on conquering his crown. 2x champion, Max Verstappen is well on his way to achieving at least the same amount of titles as Schumacher, and maybe even more.

In reality, Verstappen did have the distinct privilege of seeing the genius of Schumacher from close quarters. Through his father’s association with Schumacher, Verstappen knew the German multiple-time champion as a close family friend, an Uncle. But did the Dutch lion ever consider him an idol?

When asked if he looked up to Schumacher as a role model, he bluntly replied, “I never had that with anyone where I wanted to be like him or I wanted to achieve what he has achieved.” He further contended that he never had any role models.  “Never. I never had posters up.”

Verstappen was quoted as saying, “Now it’s about just enjoying the moment you’re in. Of course, I try to win as many races as I can, but I’ve never really been someone who was trying to break records or whatever.”
