Fernando Alonso has been vocal about AMR23’s potential at the Monaco GP. Many say that the greatest drivers can feel things even before they have happened. As Alonso prepares for the ‘Como 33’, the Red Bull taskmaster reveals the RB19s handicap at Monaco. Fearing what Fernando Alonso has got in the bag, let’s see what the Red Bull taskmaster has said.
Max Verstappen and Co. continued to be the dominant force in 2023 after winning last year’s Constructor’s Championship. The Red Bull drivers have won all 5 races so far with four 1-2 finishes in them. The race pace and the straight-line speed have been the key areas where Red Bull excelled compared to its competitors. Nevertheless, with Monaco up next, Helmut Marko fears that the win record could be in danger.

Monaco is a slow track where overtaking is very challenging and risky for the driver. Hence, the qualifying positions usually decide what the race result is going to be. Red Bull would not be able to use its advantages on a track like Monaco. On the contrary, it will suit the AMR23 as straight-line speed isn’t important in Monaco. Helmut Marko suggests that Fernando Alonso is always a competitive qualifier, and can get the pole and win the race.
According to SoyMotor.com, Helmut Marko said, “We cannot use one of our career strengths in Monaco, since the one who drives in front sets the pace, the degradation is not decisive, there are no straights where our advantage can be key. Alonso is always good. Their lack of maximum speed will not be a problem in Monte Carlo and if they have a good weekend they will be at the top of the classification. He is a candidate.”

Having won the Monaco GP in 2021, Max Verstappen knows what it takes to take the trophy home. He explains how qualifying is of the utmost importance and that having a perfect lap around Monaco with no mistakes is difficult. With overtaking being almost impossible, the changes revolve around the strategy.
According to Firstsportz.com, Max Verstappen said, “Looking ahead to Monaco, qualifying is so important there so we need to make sure we are as strong as we can be in that session. So, nailing a qualifying lap here is extremely difficult but at the same time very exciting. The race is usually heavily dependent on the strategy as overtaking is almost impossible.
