Sebastian Vettel had a disappointing season last year and appeared short on confidence. However, with a move to new surroundings in Aston Martin, fans believe that the four-time world champion will be rejuvenated and chomping at the bit to avenge his previous campaign. But former F1 driver Damon Hill doesn’t see the fire burning within the ex-Ferrari man.

Hill was skeptical when asked whether he thinks Vettel has regained his confidence. The 1996 world champion was quoted by Planet F1 saying, “I hope he has had a chance to regain his self-confidence.

Vettel only managed to notch 33 points from 17 races in 2020. Right from the get-go, it never appeared that Sebastian had any faith in the Ferrari SF1000. Throughout the course of the season he complained about the car’s handling, pace, aerodynamics and other things.

However, Hill believes there were other underlying problems that caused the German driver to have such a woeful campaign.

Racing for the Maranello-based outfit can be tough because of their brilliant history. Fans tend to expect high-class performances season after season, and the slightest signs of disappointment from the driver’s part can turn into scathing criticism. As a result, the pressure is always high.

But at Aston Martin, Vettel may be relieved of that insane pressure. Perhaps that may liberate Sebastian. While Hill has his doubts over the four-time world champion, he still believes that if Vettel were to be provided with a good package, he could achieve some redemption.

He said, “I think Sebastian can still say a lot and if he sees a chance to be competitive for the win or the podium, he will give his best.

Pre-season hasn’t been kind to Vettel, but only time will tell if we see the ex-Red Bull star back to his blazing best in 2021.
