After a disastrous 2022 F1 season, Mercedes are finally in the position to make a comeback. After the year that saw the Brackley-based team suffer, despite having Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at the helm, there’s finally light for the Silver Arrows at the end of the tunnel. The W14 might be the car that is going to help Hamilton push for his eighth world championship, believes Toto Wolff. As the team principal Wolff sent out a positive note after the first day of testing, fans finally have built up their expectations over the new W14, although they were wary of doing so.

As per Yahoo Sports, Wolff shared, “You need to provide a good car for a driver that has the ambition to win races and championships and we have that. We want to win. At this stage last year, we knew we were in trouble because the car was bouncing around and we were not able to drive it correctly.”

“But today, it is very different. The car seems to be balanced in the right way. There is no bouncing, which is good news. It is a good starting point. We have had a productive morning,” further stated the Austrian executive.

This made the fans hopeful of the outcome after the first day of testing in Bahrain. They started to believe that the W14 can finally be a match for SF-23 or the mighty RB-19. Still, a lot of them were wondering what if Wolff had given them false hope?

Fans Put firm warning for Toto Wolff over Mercedes comments

Soon after the information on the new W14 landed on the internet, the Silver Arrows fans pleaded to the Austrian executive so that he doesn’t jinx the team. Also, they requested the boss not to give high hopes regarding the performance of the W14 even before it is fully tested.

However, a part of fans believes the sexiest Mercedes car did not entirely show its full performance during the testing. They are of the opinion that the Silver Arrows used sandbagging technique to throw the rivals off.

However, there is still a long way to go for further development and collection of more data. With one day down, the teams have two more days of heavy testing ahead of them. But it seems, Toto Wolff knows what he is talking about as he gave the fans some high hopes.
