On the very last lap of the Austrian Grand Prix last season, Lando Norris conjured up the fastest lap of the race. A lap that ensured his first career podium as he became the third-youngest Formula 1 podium finisher ever.
The race stewards handed down a 5-second penalty to Lewis Hamilton for his contact with Alex Albon. Norris crossed the finish line at the P4 position behind the Mercedes driver. He needed to be under 5 seconds to stand on the podium, and he came in 4.8 seconds behind Hamilton.
McLaren shared a video on Twitter about Drive to Survive season 3, where they took us back into the garage after Lando crossed the finish line. It featured incredible and unseen scenes as the young Briton and everyone in the team was overwhelmed with joy at the 20-year-old claiming his first podium.

The McLaren driver had dropped to the fifth position with just a few laps to go. He made a move on Sergio Perez and the Mexican darted into Norris on the inside line. In an interview, the Briton explained how he believed he messed up his chances of a podium.
“I’m speechless, I think there was a few points in the race where I thought I fudged it up quite bit. I dropped to fifth with a few laps to go, Carlos [Sainz] was almost getting past me. I managed to get past [Sergio] Perez, and I ended up on the podium.”
