Here’s When Ferrari Plans to Run Mick Schumacher Next Following Eifel GP Disappointment

So much hope, so much anticipation, but unfortunately, in the end, Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott’s F1 practice debuts were dashed by heavy outbursts of rain.

Many were keen on seeing how the Ferrari Drivers Academy (FDA) drivers would do in F1 cars. However, it was not to be, and now that opportunity will have to be pushed to a later date.

All is not lost though, as Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto has offered good news, which could still see them make their debuts.

Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott may most likely feature in Abu Dhabi

Although Nurburgring was not to be for Mick and Callum, an opportunity could arrive in the form of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It is generally the last race of the season, and it is on this year’s racing calendar as well.

Speaking in a brief interview, Binotto was quoted saying, “It would have been a great opportunity here, to make their debut in F1. Obviously, we will try to re-arrange in the next races, but it will be very difficult.

“In Bahrain, you’ve got the F2 races as well in the championship, on which they need to be focused. So, very likely the next opportunity will be in Abu Dhabi and not here. Obviously that is a missed opportunity, but again no choice,” concluded Binotto.

Schumacher will now focus on sealing the F2 Championship title

Mick Schumacher will be back in business with a bit of gloom on his mind, having missed the opportunity to race in front of his home crowd.

Regardless, he has the F2 Championship to look at now. The schedule sees four more races left to be conducted in Bahrain. And with 191 points, Mick currently leads the table.

The FDA had originally planned debuts for Mick and Callum at the Nurburgring. With Robert Shwartzman getting a look-in during the Abu Dhabi GP.

It will be interesting to see how the FDA reschedules their outings, considering how their very future in the pinnacle of the motorsports world depends on their debut performance behind the wheel of a Formula One car.
