Not the greatest of starts to an F1 weekend as the first practice session for the 11th of October’s Eifel Grand Prix was called off on account of rain and low visibility. As if it wasn’t annoying enough to not get any F1 action after 12 long days, the part that made it worse was that there would be no debut outing for Mick Schumacher this weekend.

Fans were waiting in eager anticipation to see the F2 phenom and son of 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher, hit the Nurburgring circuit with Alfa Romeo. But with the cancellation of the session, the wait will go on.

Schumacher himself was understandably gutted. He said, “Obviously, it’s been a shame to not get out. But we knew that the weather forecast didn’t look great. This time of the year in the Eifel it’s not the most sure it’s going to be dry. We knew it might be wet and it was.”

Nevertheless, the young German doesn’t think that all the efforts in preparation for his debut were a waste of time and effort. “At the end, the preparation was good. We done a lot of meetings and I got so much knowledge of it. So it’s been very helpful,” said Schumacher.

However, the 21-year-old did admit that he was clueless about when he would get another chance to drive in an F1 practice session this year.

He said, “We have to wait and see how things develop. Obviously, a lot of tracks coming up which are not often driven on. The official drivers need their time in the car. So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

Mick Schumacher dedicates his focus to the remainder of the F2 season

Schumacher currently sits atop the F2 Drivers’ Championship standings with 191 points. He holds a 22 point lead over the second-placed Callum Ilott, who also lost his chance at a maiden F1 outing with Haas.

The German revealed where his priorities lie. He said, “For me, the focus is on F2. Try to finish that on a high, try to focus on that championship. F1 is not a focus on that side.”

There are another 6 rounds of F2 action left (3 feature races and 3 sprint races). However, the next race is a month and a half away. Could it upset Mick’s rhythm? Or can he make his way to the end of the campaign as a table topper and win the championship?

Either way, it should make for interesting viewing. And that’s all we can pray for!
