Heavy rains combined with a thick blanket of fog on the tracks made for a lackluster picture at the Nurburgring Circuit on Friday. Nature’s wrath forced the FIA Race Control’s hand to scrap both free practice sessions. But this came as a dampener to two young drivers in particular.
Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott were scheduled to make their F1 practice debuts in the first free practice session. The former was going to take the wheel of the Alfa Romeo C39, while the latter would have taken over the Haas VF-20.

Sebastian Vettel hopeful of Mick Schumacher getting another chance
One person that holds a close affinity towards Mick is the 4-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel. He truly believed that the young German deserved his chance and was optimistic he could get another sometime soon.
Vettel was quoted as saying, “I am sorry mainly for the fans and the two FDA guys who didn’t get to do a single lap. In the afternoon, in what should have been the second sessions, I had several chats.
“With my father who is here with me this weekend, with our Sporting Director and also with Mick, who said he was really upset at not being able to get in the car. I hope he’ll get another chance as soon as possible.”
Yesterday’s comments from Mattia Binotto, however, would provide some encouragement. The Ferrari Team Principal believed another opportunity could arrive for these young drivers at the Abu Dhabi GP.

Although the debut would have provided a closer look for teams, the likes of Haas and Alfa Romeo can still recruit Mick to bolster their outfit for their 2021 Formula One campaign.
