It was a day where everything went well for Lewis Hamilton, considering how the Briton clinched the highly anticipated top step of the podium for himself. And by doing so, he has now equaled the tremendous feat of Michael Schumacher’s 91 career race victories.

Many pundits and followers of the sport billed Schumacher’s record to remain unbroken forever. However, a force named Lewis Hamilton has taken over and he’s hungry for more.

The disappointment from Sochi would certainly have fueled his desire to do well at the Eifel Grand Prix. Despite starting in P2, with Mercedes’ teammate Valtteri Bottas taking pole position, Hamilton managed to find his way to the top.

Lewis Hamilton gifted a special helmet from Mick Schumacher

It was a special moment for Lewis Hamilton following the conclusion of the race when Mick Schumacher entered the interview area. The young German presented Lewis with what was one of his father’s helmets from his final few years at Mercedes.

Needless to say, the Mercedes man was most definitely touched by the heartfelt thought. A mark of respect in the truest sense, gestures like these are elements that every F1 fan loves to see.

In the very first lap of the race, Hamilton tried to pass Bottas at Turn 1; however, the Finn steadied his car and kept the pace going. But things changed when Bottas went in for his first pit stop, in what was apparently a tire puncture.

The turning point in the race was when Bottas lost engine power and dropped places on the grid. Hamilton saw an opening and seized it almost immediately to settle into the lead.

Hamilton’s win was briefly in doubt during Norris’ incident

Despite building a lead of nearly 7 seconds over Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the incident with Lando Norris involved the safety car coming out. That obviously meant that cars had to slow down, and no overtaking was allowed.

At the time of the safety car ending, Verstappen had caught on Hamilton and reduced the gap to 1.5 seconds. But just as the Red Bull driver prepared to come out of the final corner, he suffered a brief lockup. That meant Hamilton’s job only got a lot easier.

Hamilton, having equaled this great feat, will eye greater glory. However, relishing the day is also important; Sunday at the Nurburgring well and truly belongs to the great Lewis Hamilton- a true champion.
