George Russell Blames “Super Aggressive” Approach for Embarrassing Imola Non Finish

George Russell was on his way to score his first-ever F1 points. After a disappointing start, Russell made up for the places lost. He passed Vettel bravely and also overtook Ocon with his pace; however, it was just not his day.
As soon as the Briton approached the Aqua Minerale turn, he lost control of his car and drove into the wall. Before he could even react, he was out of the race. The unfortunate turn of events surely drained him of his enthusiasm as he was forced to retreat.
Looking back at the incident, Russell agrees that it was a foolish way to heat tires and that too when the safety cars were out. However, he knew he was on older tires and he needed to get them working to maintain his lead.

On a day when many tail-enders made it to the points table, George Russell learned yet another lesson that left him gutted on the sidetrack.
“I don’t know, not make stupid mistakes like I did today. It was a race I was pushing as hard as I could from lap one until then, the most aggressive I’ve ever been,” replied Russell.

George Russell takes this incident for what it is, a lesson
Russell recalls that tragic moment around the Aqua Minerale turn when the safety car was on. He was careless for one moment, and it cost him the race. All he wants to do is learn from his mistake and come back stronger.
“I wanted to continue that under the Safety Car as I knew that with the guys behind me on the new hot tyres, myself on the old tyres, if I had any chance of getting a point, I needed to be super aggressive.

“As soon as I lost the car, I was already in the wall. It’s gutting. I’m really sorry for all the guys,” expressed an apologetic Russell.
“I was accelerating and I was changing gear at the same time. With cold tyres, this sometimes happens with cold tyres. It was my job to work them as hard as I could.

Having driven for almost two years without a point might be a frustrating prospect for Russell. We hope to see the youngster score some points next time around.
