Rewriting the history books is something that Lewis Hamilton has been doing ever since his arrival in F1 in the 2007 season. Nearly 13 years on, he continues to go from strength to strength.
But often, the greatest of champions come across with an air of humility. That the results are merely only a by-product of the process. That the journey, should be much more enjoyable than the destination.
Hamilton is also one such champion who believes that leaving a mark before leaving the sport is important. For him, there is so much more to racing than just earning accomplishments.

Lewis Hamilton believes ‘living to his potential’ is the most important thing for him
Speaking in an interview with Sky F1, Hamilton said, “For sure if I try to look in 20 years’ time or something like that, of course I want to know that I didn’t waste my time here.Just collecting accolades and titles which you know, these titles things have just never meant anything to me.”
Lewis Hamilton has always held the approach of taking it race by race. And as he enters the pinnacle years of his career, the idea would be to make the most of his time at Mercedes.

“Of course winning the world championship is a good thing, but it’s not been the most important thing for me. It’s continuing to go out day on day and deliver the way I know I could deliver, and living to my potential.
“But yeah for sure you want to look back. And say I was part of something much bigger than myself.”
Will Hamilton strive to continue in F1 after a few years’ time?

A burning subject has been the future of the defending champion, and what his future ambitions with Mercedes are. At just 35, fans will naturally want him to continue for a few more years.
However, the sticking point in the negotiations could be the length of his contract. Hamilton has said that his new deal needs to be reflective of his priorities and goals in life.

Regardless, his golden time is now. So, by virtue of that, all emphasis will lie on meeting the high stakes objectives set for him.
Winning the next few races will naturally guarantee him a seventh Drivers’ title overall. It would go a long way in cementing his legacy when he eventually does leave the sport.
