F1 or Football? Ask any random stranger in Europe and they’d most probably prefer the latter. But, of course, why wouldn’t they?
The incredible level of grandeur that each of the leagues including Premier League, Serie A, and La Liga carries is quite astonishing, and all of these high-profile leagues converge into battling for one major trophy- the UEFA Champions League trophy. Not to forget the FIFA World Cup that attracts almost the entire world’s attention once in every four years.

Amidst such an ever-present love for football, Alpine F1 driver, Esteban Ocon has offered his point of view on the alleged craze for Formula One in recent times. The Frenchman reckoned that F1, the pinnacle of motorsport, could soon supersede football in terms of viewership.

To prove his point, Ocon considered his friends for instance, who were once clueless about the existence of F1 itself but became ardent fans in the past year.

What did the F1 driver say?
The French lad who recently showed up at the Ballan d’Or ceremony along with his F1 partner, Fernando Alonso, admitted the growing love for the sport.

“That last lap in 2021 really sums up the whole season because it’s been that way in 2020. It’s been that way in 2021. And if we get the cars closer together, I think it will probably overtake football in terms of how interesting it is,” he said according to Soy Motor.

“Everyone talks about Formula 1, I have some friends who were not very interested in the sport and now they are seeing it completely. It’s just great. I think it’s fantastic the way it’s evolving before Formula 1. Of course, there are still things to improve, but I think the way we’re trying things, making it interesting, the way there are opportunities today. It’s crazy until the last lap.”

Overall, the whole of the 2021 season was a major boost to Formula One, thanks to the substantial rise in competitiveness and the added element of unpredictability.
