Fernando Alonso defended Aston Martin after they messed up his strategy at the Monaco GP which cost him a chance at the race win. Following his former teammate, Esteban Ocon has now thrown the accusations made after his Monaco GP podium out of the window as he issues a massive statement that changes one’s perspective around Laurent Rossi’s criticism. Did Esteban Ocon indirectly defend Laurent Rossi? What did the Frenchman say?

Esteban Ocon qualified a brilliant P3 for the Monaco GP and finished the race on the podium. Esteban drove extremely well, the car looked great and the team made the right calls. The driver, the car, and the team, everything worked in symphony. This podium came just days after Laurent Rossi slandered the team in public, advising that Alpine had done a sub-par job this season. Many believed that Esteban Ocon and Co. would use the podium to stick it to Laurent Rossi.

According to the F1: Chequered Flag Podcast, Rosanna Tennant asked Esteban Ocon “A few weeks ago the team had a telling off from Rossi. Is this performance a take that Laurent or is this actually the performance he was alluding to that you guys weren’t pulling out each weekend?”

Esteban Ocon replied “You know, I think what we’ve done today is outstanding and I believe in the project that they are building. I’m very sure we are going to get there. Today we are on the podium. Today it’s the reward for every single member of the team who has contributed. But we need to keep pushing and that’s what we are doing. Today we are proud but hopefully, it’s only the beginning.”

While Esteban Ocon is happy and believes in his team, Pierre Gasly raised questions against the team regarding the strategy that he was put on in Monaco.

Whilst everything went as smooth as butter for Esteban Ocon at Monaco, the same could not be said for Pierre Gasly. He explains how he’s confused with the strategy that Alpine put him on. The Frenchman was in P3 with the rains only a couple of minutes away. Yet Alpine pitted Gasly for fresh rubber and inevitably he had to pit again for intermediate tires as the rain poured down.

According to the post-race interview uploaded by Formula1.com, Pierre Gasly said “I’m obviously disappointed and a bit confused with the decision we made because we were P3 at the time with the rain coming and I was kind of rubbing my hand because it was the perfect scenario for us. And then we decided to box for 2 laps and use the soft before we had to switch to the inters, so yeah. At that time I feel like we are P3, P4 for the team. Could have been better but you know, it’s part of the sport. We’ll analyze what we could’ve done better”
