Just days after it was stated that Formula 1 remained relatively uninteresting following the Azerbaijan Sprint weekend it appears that breaking news is already commonplace in the world of motorsports. “One man’s loss is another man’s gain” is just a simple tenet of life that is now being applied in Formula 1. This aphorism applies to Nyck de Vries, who, following a season of misfortunes and his own fault, has finally lost his position to flamboyant Australian Daniel Ricciardo. However, this entire saga was plenty enough for F1 fans to criticize or rather mock one of the FIA’s unfair actions against Alpine’s Esteban Ocon. You may now be wondering how the two events are related. Don’t worry, here’s the explanation.

Throughout the race in Red Bull’s home, “track limits” remained a hot topic of conversation. The FIA eventually discovered that a total of 1200 incidents involving track limit breaches were intended to be assessed. However, it was discovered after the investigation was completed that 8 drivers had received time penalties for violating track regulations. Esteban Ocon, who received a total of four penalties—two of 10 seconds each and two of five seconds—remained the motorist who was hammered the hardest in all of these. All of this happened after Ocon had already got extra five seconds added to his time for not an unsafe release.

Nevertheless is not the first time Ocon has faced FIA retribution at a racing track. The Frenchman tied the record for most penalties(3) in a season opener this year in Bahrain. And following finishing a frustrating Austrian Grand Prix, Ocon set a record for the most penalties in a race with overall five penalties getting handed to him.

Twitter F1 fans appear to have made fun of FIA for this unfortunate condition of Alpine since the French team is not particularly proud of their present condition and ranking. They even went to the extent of asking for harsh punishment for Esteban Ocon, all this was done only to fire shots at FIA’s recent decisions.

The FIA has recently become rigorous enough to draw intense scrutiny from FI aficionados. There have been numerous occasions like this where fans leave little room for a crude jab. And now, after Nyck de Vries’ departure from the Alpha Tauri, which has been the subject of recent ridicule itself, Twitter users seize the opportunity to mock the governing authorities by pleading with them to give some more penalties to Esteban Ocon. Given below are some reactions.

Just a few weeks ago, Lando Norris in the Canadian GP came under fire from the Stewards for allegedly slowing down in a safety car. As a result of which the FIA came under intense fan criticism. However now after the brutal jibes of fans will the FIA mend its way?

Do you believe that the FIA will start to be more forgiving of the F1 drivers now that they have caught wind of the fans’ satire?
