Every Team Wants A ‘Max Verstappen’ of Their Own, Former F1 Team Boss

An entirely different trend rose in Formula 1 with the signing of Max Verstappen. Red Bull’s decision to put a 17-year-old in F1 paid off well as the driver rose to F1 glory.

Nowadays, Teams are employing more and more young drivers. And with Charles Leclerc, even the good old Ferrari has put its trust in the ability of young drivers. However, Ex- Williams F1 manager Peter Windsor wants to see one more thing. He believes that teams should not only focus on junior F1 drivers and should look at other racing leagues around the world.

Former Williams F1 Manager Peter Windsor was talking in a recent episode of his youtube show The Racer’s Edge. He was talking about the trend of drivers coming into F1 younger than ever.

“Teams don’t look so much at different racing classes, but more at drivers who go through some of those classes and show talent in them. That’s actually exactly how Verstappen got into the sport and that’s what other teams want to copy now”

Red Bull’s discovery of Max Verstappen made it impossible for American drivers to break into Europe

The former Williams team manager was discussing the youthful lineup in the current Formula 1 grid. And the success of the model set by Red Bull Racing’s signing of Verstappen at a young age. He thinks that due consideration is not paid to American drivers, who are simply not finding the opportunity in Formula 1 or junior Formulas.

”American drivers tend to finish their studies first and then it’s already too late to breakthrough in Europe. However, teams should invest money in the careers of American talents, so that they also get a fair chance in Europe,”

Windsor is famously known for his failed F1 adventure, Team US F1. It was a proposed F1 group for the 2010 season with Windsor as its group head. However, the team shut operations even before finishing its vehicle design due to sponsors backing at the last moment.

Before that Windsor also held key administration jobs in Ferrari F1 and Williams F1 in the late 80s and mid-90s.
