Lewis Hamilton has finally been awarded the honor of knighthood, and it certainly has been very well deserved. The Mercedes superstar has been impeccable on the track this past decade, with the latest feather in his cap being his record-equaling seventh world title.

Understandably, after being knighted, millions of people took to social media to congratulate Hamilton. Among the many stars who wished him former F1 world champion Damon Hill was one of them.

Hill lauded the seven-time world champion not only for his incredible success on the track but also for the causes he supports off-track.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hill said that the honor of knighthood was, “Terrific and well earned.

Hill added, “He is standing up for issues that are close to his heart and affect everyone, and in our sport it’s very rare for a driver to get involved in anything that’s outside of Formula 1.

He also believes that it was a bold move on Hamilton’s part to support the causes he did. Particularly because he started the year with numerous records in his sights; a shift of focus could have seen Hamilton underperform in 2020.

The 1996 world champion said, “He’s stood up at a time when it could have destabilized his career, could have destabilized his concentration on the championship. So he took a huge gamble to do that, and that’s courage and that’s standing up for what you believe is right.
