As Valtteri Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo this season, Mercedes brought in George Russell. The young Brit will be the third teammate for the seven-time world champion at the Silver Arrows. With George in the wings, Lewis Hamilton steps up to finish the unfinished business, and claim his eighth world title.

However, things can be a little tricky for Lewis’s teammate at Mercedes. Thanks to the surreal performance that he has been able to put up year after year, The 37-year-old has always been a fan favorite. Moreover, Lewis’ brilliance in the sport has allowed him to become the poster boy for Mercedes. Such a dynamic in the team can often create difficulties for this other driver, which, as of now, is George Russell. And this is exactly what Lewis’s former teammate, Heikki Kovalainen believes.

Most of Lewis’s teammates couldn’t match his talent on most occasions. Except for Nico Rosberg in 2016 and Jenson Button in 2009, every other teammate has been the second-best to the 37-year-old driver. From racing with Fernando Alonso, Lewis also partnered with the likes of Heikki Kovalainen, Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, Valtteri Bottas, and now George Russell.

Hamilton raced with then-teammate Fernando Alonso in McLaren in 2007. Speaking on this, Heikki conveyed, “Ever since Alonso won the titles with Renault he has always made the wrong move to change teams and sometimes I wonder if it was because of the surprise he got with Hamilton’s speed.”

Kovalainen raced with Hamilton in 2008 and 2009 at McLaren. The Finnish driver further asserted on Rosberg’s partnership with Lewis. He said, “I think Rosberg had to use all the tools in his box to beat Lewis and that almost killed him, he said himself that he couldn’t do another season like that or he would be dead”

To talk about Lewis Hamilton, the more we say, the less it is. From being the seven-time world champion to holding the record for most race wins and pole positions, the Briton has it all.

As Schumacher has already retired, the next man to him is Sebastian Vettel with almost half wins and pole positions. Even his teammates often take the second position behind him in terms of pace and performance. However, things have started on a different note this year.
