Ex-FIA President Jean Todt Leaves the Door Open With Reports of a Ferrari F1 Homecoming in 2022
Each year, after the season ends, everyone who is involved in Formula 1 gets to go back home for a few weeks. And it’s the same for Jean Todt, who recently stepped down from the role of the President of the FIA.
Todt was at FIA since 2009 and had served the maximum of three terms, after which he was no longer eligible. And yes, Todt will go home and relax for a while; but there’s another home which he has been strongly linked to go back to in the recent weeks.
The home in Maranello, Italy – Ferrari.

All those at Ferrari and the Tifosi will be delighted with what Todt had to say about his future endeavors. “I do not close the door to other opportunities,” Todt said in a recent interview.
But he had one condition about those ‘opportunities’ – “as long as they are compatible with what I already do.”
Well, finding an opportunity for Todt at Ferrari is like finding clouds on a rainy day; it’s not that difficult.
Reports from Italy have also suggested Jean Todt going back to Ferrari
A few weeks ago, a report from Italy read, “Jean Todt could return to Ferrari in 2022. His mandate as president of the FIA expires on Dec 17, he expressed an unexpected idea to Elkann: to return to Ferrari.”
“The two have talked about it several times in recent months after a first contact at Le Mans this August.”

Todt’s potential new role was also mentioned in that report, that of a super-consultant. This is a role similar to what Niki Lauda had at Mercedes in the past.

Despite all this, in his recent interview, Todt played it safe by saying that at the moment, ‘there is nothing’, that everyone should be realistic. This is because of his commitment to road safety with the United Nations, which he considers as ‘the most important’.
But we all know that realistic in sports mean ‘until confirmed’. And priorities can always be taken care of when an enormous opportunity comes knocking at your door.
