Lewis Hamilton drove a stunning race at the Turkish Grand Prix to seal his championship win. Hamilton won his seventh world championship this year and became the most successful driver in the Formula 1 history. He also has the record of most wins and poles than any racer in history.

The Mercedes-Hamilton partnership has been absolutely dominating. However, domination has prompted a substantial debating point. Whether the triumph of Hamilton is because of the car or his skills behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, Paddy Lowe gave his opinion on the driver versus car debate. He also pointed out the personal sacrifices Hamilton had to make to stand out from the rest of the drivers. He said, “He’s made great, great sacrifices to do that. Personal sacrifices in terms of life choices, to really dedicate himself to his F1 career. And the consistency of staying in a team.”

Lowe acknowledges to understand the influence of car and the driver, it is essential to look at his entire career. He said, “Taking the [Turkey] race, it was pretty clear he made the difference in that car. Yes, it’s a good car, but if you compare him to his teammates, and you compare him to the mistakes of many other great drivers in that race, then he produced a perfect performance.”

Lowe clarified that for him, it was Hamilton who won the race in Turkey and not the car. “But if you take his entire career so far, and seven world championships, then you have to average out the massive contribution of the teams in making great cars,” he further added.
