Former Red Bull junior driver Dan Ticktum was one of the most promising prospects for Formula One. But his off-track antiques left him with almost zero opportunities to race at the pinnacle of motorsport. In 2022, the young British driver jumped ship to Formula E.

After finishing P18 in his debut race in the series, Ticktum mentioned that every driver in Formula E is looking to crash into each other. Dan stated that it is hard to race wheel to wheel in the series.

“Basically, everyone seems to crash into each other when they’re overtaking. Every move I had done on me, I got crashed into. So if that’s how everyone plays the game here, I’ll be doing the same,” said Ticktum.

Interestingly, the young British driver also crashed on the opening lap with Antonio Felix da Costa.

Costa criticizes former Red Bull junior for being too aggressive

As reported by Motorsport, Antonio Felix stated that the former Red Bull junior was too aggressive on the opening lap at the first race of Formula E season.

“I was a bit unlucky because I got put in the middle of two rookies between Ticktum and Askew. One of them was overly cautious, which to me was the right approach, which was Oliver, and good for him. He had a good race.”

And Dan, he just came where there was no [room], he shouldn’t have been there and was overly aggressive and yeah, he ended my race,” said Felix da Costa.

Dan defended himself by mentioning that he went for the gap when he saw one.“I was on the inside into turn one. I mean, it was obviously very unfortunate. [Antonio] is a driver I respect a lot, but I didn’t know that there are three cars on the outside. You know, I’m just on the inside,” said Dan.

Dan was often criticized for his wheel-to-wheel battles in the junior formula series. The former Red Bull junior is prone to making dangerous moves while battling in a race. But hopefully, he will have better success in Formula E than he had in Formula 2.
