Ever since his stints in Netflix’s docuseries Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Will Buxton has earned quite a fame. Providing insights on what all happens behind the curtains has increased his value as an F1 journalist manifold. And being a respectable journalist, he did what all sports journalists do- give their predictions. Will did exactly that a year and a half ago on what he thought the 2025 F1 grid would look like. But this sport is anything but predictable. As we are in 2023 already, a user on Reddit reevaluated the predictions made in 2021 and weighed in on how much of it could actually come true. Fans in the comments had their opinions as well.
Much of Buxton’s predictions were sane and safe choices, like Max Verstappen continuing with Red Bull. However, there were a few that look as improbable now as they did in 2021, like Daniel Ricciardo joining George Russell at Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton taking up the role of Sporting Director.

There were some predictions from Buxton’s 2021 article that seemed likely to happen and, at the same time, not so much. One of those was Lando Norris joining Verstappen at Red Bull. Given McLaren’s steady decline in the last two years, it does not seem unlikely that Norris could lose patience and seek success elsewhere. Red Bull will certainly not be averse to the idea of having him either.
But it is also highly unlikely that Lando will play second fiddle to Max. So the move could prove to be a disaster. In fact, briefly, after the conclusion of the 2023 season, several F1 journalists discussed if Red Bull should sign Norris. While some thought it would be a brilliant move, Natalie Pinkham felt it was a recipe for disaster.

Some of Will’s predictions included drivers who are currently competing in F1’s feeder series and look like promising talents. He even went as far as putting multiple-time W-Series winner Jamie Chadwick in the 2023 Williams seat. All of it was discussed by a Reddit user in their post.
Have a look at some reactions to the post.
A pretty detailed discussion over Kyle Kirkwood’s career progression ensued in the comments of the post.
This is exactly what we’re talking about. F1 is such an unpredictable sport that any prediction made for a year ahead could turn on its head, forget about doing it for something 4 years down the line.
Some did not take well to Will’s predictions at all.
Now this one was pretty interesting. Given that Carlos Sainz was comprehensively beaten by his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc in 2022, will he plot a move to a new team like Audi in the future if the trend continues?
