As we head towards the conclusion of 2022, F1 is already setting high expectations for the upcoming 2023 season. Amid a boom in popularity, American owners Liberty Media have been trying to increase the number of races. For 2023, Formula 1 has announced a record race calendar for the 2023 season.

The 2023 season will touch the maximum limit as the circus will travel to 24 locations during the season.

The FIA and the World Motor Sport Council approved the calendar revealed by F1’s governing body. The season will begin in Bahrain on March 5 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on November 26.

The calendar will feature three additions and one replacement. In 2023, the French GP will make way for returning Qatar GP and the Chinese GP. The previously touted South African GP did not make the cut, with Las Vegas set to return for F1 after 1982.

Speaking on the calendar announcement, the CEO and President Stefano Domenicali said: “We are excited to announce the 2023 calendar with 24 races around the world. Formula 1 has unprecedented demand to host races, and it is important we get the balance right for the entire sport.”

FIA’s president Mohammed Ben Sulayem also shared Domenicali’s opinion. He said, “The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale.”

To accommodate new venues, the calendar is at its limit and the same would be expected from the drivers and the teams. The 2023 season will definitely be a hectic affair.

From a fan’s perspective, one would assume the fans would want as many races as possible in a calendar year. However, that is not the reaction the 2023 24-race season is getting.

A host of fans are pointing out the sustainability of the 24-races and how it is further away from the sustainability agenda of Formula 1.
