F1 Insider Questions Ferrari’s 2022 Bid – “It Means the Championship Dream Is Over”

Ferrari made a major turnaround in 2021 after a disastrous 2020 F1 campaign. Now, the sport is entering a new era with a major overhaul in the regulations. Many insiders are betting their bucks on the ‘Maranello Team’ as they believe Ferrari will perform admirably. That includes McLaren driver Lando Norris and Red Bull boss Christian Horner to name a few. However, Italian F1 journalist Leo Turrini has raised some concerns about the same.
A weaker engine and a draggy car derailed the Maranello team in 2020. However, in 2021, with different power units, they managed to find a good pace. In another welcome update, there are rumors that Ferrari have already overcome the 20BHP deficit with the new fuel regulations working together with their sponsor Shell.
As things look good on the Powertrain front, there are some doubts about the aerodynamics department. Sources stated that the Red Team has been working on some “innovative” solutions to simplify the aero aspects. Essentially speaking, FIA regulations require the front wing of the 2022 car with simplified aerodynamics in order to tackle the bad air.

Leo Turrini raises concerns over Ferrari F1 title dream
Turrini is known for his close relations with the Maranello team. In a recent update, he agrees that Ferrari are all-set to close the gap to the frontrunners on the engine side. However, he voiced his concerns in another department.
In a recent interview reported by Motorsport.com, the Italian journalist said that if things go south for the team in their “innovative” solutions, the F1 title dream is more or less over for them in 2022. “From what I know, Ferrari is 100% convinced that they can catch up with the leaders in engine power despite switching to E10 fuel,” said the Italian.

“There are various doubts about some innovative aero solutions used in aerodynamic sens. If Ferrari is half an industry behind Red Bull and Mercedes in the first race, it means the championship dream is over,” added Turrini.
