Former F1 driver and multiple-time world champion Alain Prost recently dropped a huge Lewis Hamilton claim. The Frenchman believes Hamilton has equal reasons to bow out of his seat as he has to stay out there.
Lewis Hamilton has been away from the social media glare since the colossal blow in Abu Dhabi. He looked furious over developments during the Safety car period, even calling the race “manipulated”.
Hamilton, along with team boss Toto Wolff, skipped the FIA prize-giving gala held in Paris as a sign of protest. There has been a lot of discussion about Hamilton’s future with the sport but nothing concrete has come out yet.

Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone hinted that the Mercedes driver might not come back after the heartbreaking loss in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, team boss Toto Wolff, who has been very vocal about his criticism of the racing committee, also dropped a few insinuations about Hamilton’s retirement.
Alain Prost says it would be “sad” if Lewis Hamilton retires
Prost is one of the biggest names to have donned the F1 outfit ever. 51 GP wins, 106 podium finishes, and 4 world championships. His rivalry with Brazilian star Ayrton Senna back in the late 80s and early 90s remains one of the fiercest this sport has ever seen. Moreover, many believe the 2021 F1 rivalry between Hamilton and Verstappen had reminiscences of the classic Prost-Senna battle.
In a recent interview reported by Formule1, Prost entered the conversation on Hamilton’s return/retirement. While he is optimistic about the Briton’s return, Prost agrees he has enough reasons to not continue in F1. “It’s hard to put yourself in his shoes,” said Prost.

“He probably has as many reasons to quit as he does to keep going. It’s 50-50. He got a big blow, but it would be really sad if he wasn’t here this season.”
“I want to stay optimistic because there is still an eighth title that he can go for. In addition, there is a new technical regulation, with perhaps three teams at the top and four or five drivers competing for the title. It’s a challenge that Hamilton might want to take on,” said Prost.
