The 2022 F1 British Grand Prix was a dramatic affair from the beginning to the end. Fans all over the world were treated to one of the season’s best races. But there were some nefarious activities that took place at the start of the race.

There was a group of protesters that made their way to the track. They decided to sit on the track at the Straight of the circuit where cars go over 300 k/h. The protesters were protesting the consumption of fossil fuels in the world.

But the manner in which they protested didn’t sit well with many, including the F1 Pundit. Luckily nothing happened as there was an accident in Turn 1 that brought out the Red Flag.

Soccer legend Gary Lineker came out in support of the protesters. He mentioned they will be remembered in history for their actions, but his views got criticism from Sky pundit Martin Brundle. Brundle rightly pointed out that there could have been a tragedy if the cars would have gone full tilt.

Lewis Hamilton too had expressed concern after the race about the manner in which the protesters protested.

The Mercedes driver mentioned he applauded the reason behind the protest but does not agree with the manner in which they decided to conduct it.

“While I’ll always support those standing up for what they believe in, it must be done safely. Please don’t jump onto our race circuits to protest. We don’t want to put you in harm’s way,” said Hamilton.

Not only him but the race winner Carlos Sainz too spoke on the issue. “People have the opportunity to speak out because it is their right, but I don’t believe jumping onto a Formula 1 track is the best way to do it and putting yourself at risk, and the other drivers.”

“You have to be more careful because you could get killed and generate an accident,” said Sainz.

It would have been so dangerous if the drivers had come on to the straight full tilt. But no matter what, the red flag would have been waived if that was the case. But this is surely not the best way to protest as they endangered not only their lives but also others around them.
