Johnny Herbert has recently opened up about Lewis Hamilton and his team Mercedes. The F1 pundit is of the opinion that Mercedes has the perfect mantra to keep themselves at the top of the season to come. Herbert also expressed that this will help Lewis Hamilton pick up his eighth world title.

Mercedes were in utter shock when Verstappen snatched the driver’s championship away from Hamilton at the very last moment. The Dutchman overtook the Briton in the nick of time to send shock waves across the Mercedes paddock. However, the German team had the Constructor’s Championship at their disposal, something to cheer about for the eight-time winner.

Talking about Mercedes’s strong points, the Sky Sports pundit conveyed, “I think Mercedes did so well last year, because of the budget cap coming into effect. They didn’t spend so much last year – I think their big upgrade was at Silverstone, while Red Bull seemed to do one more or less every race that we went to.

“So maybe there is going to be a pushing of the budget toward what [Mercedes] are going to be doing this year. Mercedes – I think it could happen again for Lewis,” concluded the former British driver.

Can Mercedes help Lewis Hamilton bounce back?

Lewis Hamilton has lost the championship battle for the first time in five years. The last time he faced such a scenario was back in 2016. Nico Rosberg, Hamilton’s teammate at the German team, picked up the world title by defeating the Briton.

Lewis now holds the same number of championships as Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher. The former McLaren man will try every possible move to claim his eighth, hence becoming the best ever driver to grace the game. It’ll be interesting to see if Verstappen can defend his title.
