F1’s Decision to Work on a “Perfect Calendar” Will Go Down Well With Climate Activist Lewis Hamilton

The pinnacle of motorsports has reached its final round of season 2022. The season might not go as thrilling as last year’s, but it’ll surely be remembered as an epic one. As the season is nearing its end, F1’s sports director Steve Nielsen says that the organization is planning something new. This news might make Lewis Hamilton happy.

With the 2023 calendar already announced, Nielsen reveals the news about FIA’s planning of the ‘perfect calender’.

The organization wants to optimize the regionalization of the races. The FIA wants to group events in such a way that it helps reduce the carbon footprint through the movements of cargo and of the teams. Now, this might give a sigh of relief to the climate activist Lewis Hamilton.

The Briton has been vocal on many social issues and is really active in raising awareness about the environment as well. Besides, the seven times world champion is also working with his team to become ‘carbon neutral.’ The Mercedes star might feel a sense of relaxation after listening to the comments of the sporting director, Steve Nielsen.

“We’re working on regionalizing the calendar,” he said. “We have a future calendar, I won’t tell you from which year, but we have a future sort of perfect calendar, within some years down the line.

“And we’re iterating gradually towards that each year, moving an event here or there by a week. So there’s a strategy to get from where we are now, which we’re not happy with, to a much happier place in a few years’ time. But it’s a gradual process.”

Now this plan might become a reality in quite some time. Whereas Stefano Domenicali is satisfied with the 2023 calendar.

Making a slight adjustment in the F1 calendar and adding two more races to the schedule next year, making a year of 24 races, the F1 CEO is very pleased.

Next year’s calendar has brought in the two races, Qatar and China. The Chinese Grand Prix is making its return after the lockdown. Moreover, the drivers will get a new track in 2023 in the shape of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

Sharing his excitement about the next year’s growth, Domenicali said, “We are excited to announce the 2023 calendar with 24 races around the world. Formula 1 has unprecedented demand to host races and it is important we get the balance right for the entire sport.”

He further added, “We are very pleased with the strong momentum Formula 1 continues to experience and it is great news that we will be able to bring our passionate fans a mix of exciting new locations such as Las Vegas to the Championship with much loved venues across Europe, Asia and the Americas.”

Until the FIA discloses what’s their future plans for the regionalization of the races, the fans have other things to focus on. Hamilton is yet to win a race this year.
