The Red Bull Racing team has indeed come a long way in Formula One since the first race in 2005. The team won 4 drivers and constructors’ world championships from 2010 to 2013, with Sebastian Vettel at the helm. But on this day in 2009, the Austrian team won their first race in Formula One at the Shanghai international circuit in China.

The team had been competitive until that point of the season against an all-conquering Brawn GP. They had been pushing them in the races but came out short until then. But in China, in the wet race, Red Bull showed their class to win their race and also get their first 1-2 in F1.

How did Sebastian Vettel manage to win Red Bull’s first race in F1?

Vettel was drafted into Red Bull after his successful stint at the Toro Rosso team in 2008. The German driver had won his first race with Toro Rosso in amazing fashion at the Italian Grand Prix in 2008. He once again showcased speed when he got the chance to drive in Red Bull in 2009, as he was consistent in his performances.

“I am extremely happy – second time now in the wet I have won a Grand Prix. Now we can have some more rain! The car is fast already and able to compete with the best teams. We will try and stay on top and make the final step to be the best team on the grid,” said Sebastian.

Although they did not win the championship in the 2009 season, Sebastian and Red Bull dominated the sport from 2010 to 2013. The pair won 4 consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ championships to etch their names in history. Since then Red Bull has added a driver’s title for Max Verstappen in 2021 but is still chasing for the 5th constructor’s title.
