Like athletes in other sports, F1 drivers also have some over-the-top passionate fans. However, sometimes, this behavior gets out of hand and ends up hurting their idols. That is precisely what Pierre Gasly went through recently as his girlfriend, Francisca “Kika” Gomes, put out some pictures with him. The obsession of some of the fans got so out of hand that they started mass reporting her, resulting in Instagram blocking her account. Kika slammed those so-called fans as she resolved the issue and got her account back online.

Rumors of Gasly dating Kika came out as they were seen dancing together in a club sometime last year. The pair put the rumors to rest by confirming the development as Francisca accompanied him in the paddocks during the season finale in Abu Dhabi. They lay any remaining doubts to rest when Kika posted some pictures Pierre took during their vacation in Dubai.

Francisca would have never imagined that dating an F1 driver will have repercussions that would be so beyond her control that they will leave her anxious and frustrated. As she posted some pictures from her 20th birthday celebrations, some mass reporting saw her account get blocked.

Getting access to her account recently, she put out a story that read, My account got blocked due to constant (and obviously unjustified) reports. I’m saddened and frustrated to see that, despite always trying to be respectful towards my followers and community, mean people managed to get to me by shutting down my account.”

This affects both my personal and professional life, and although I was able to sort this issue with Instagram’s support, I still don’t understand how this can be the best use of someone’s time.”

“Apologies to all of you that support me and give me love, and thanks for understanding!”

Fans on Twitter stood with her and slammed the intrusive behavior.

While it is nice to see F1 fans recognizing and calling out the obsessive nature of some of the fans among them, there is certainly a dire need for social media platforms to keep such activities in check. Incidents like these can leave a bad taste for everyone involved and cause a great amount of distress.
