Lewis Hamilton once again had his heart broken in Abu Dhabi as he DNF’d owing to a mechanical failure. The 7-time world champion bowed out in the 56th lap of the race after having a bumpy start to the race. His teammate George Russell finished P5 and also concluded the season ahead on overall points.

Lewis Hamilton started the race, fighting Carlos Sainz in the very first lap. The Briton went wide and bounced hard off of a chicane. As Hamilton took a hard hit, he soon complained of a broken floor and other issues later. The DNF was attributed to a hydraulics failure, which could have well been because of the hit he took earlier in the race.
Fans hail George Russell as he finishes the season ahead of his champion teammate Lewis Hamilton
Beating Lewis Hamilton to the points tally by driving the same car is no mean feat. The man does not just carry immense experience but also has a fierce attitude on the track. While Hamilton beat his teammate more times in qualifying throughout the season, Russell fared better on race days.
Resultantly, George Russell finished 4th in the drivers’ standings with 275 points, compared to Hamilton in 6th with 240 points.
Fans took this moment to laud Russell’s effort. Some even took this as an opportunity to criticize Hamilton for losing out to his teammates and only performing well when the car is fastest on the grid.

One fan pointed out how George loved the car and anything Lewis said about it was an excuse for not being able to perform.
Russell loved that car. His first win, first pole and he beat Hamilton. The guy is just looking for excuses for his mediocrity.

Another fan had a harsh take on the situation. They believed Hamilton could only dominate when given the fastest car.
Russell will beat him again next year no matter what the car is like , Hamilton isn’t the GOAT that people think , he still needs the fastest car to win 🤷♂️

One fan thought Hamilton complaining of lack of power and damaged floor on the team radio were made-up excuses.
So, All in short,
Russell beat Hamilton over a season.
Also, Russell knows what's going on inside the team and knows that "experimental setup" is a hilarious, made-up excuse. He knows that he found his groove and can beat Hamilton in 2023 again.

Hamilton beat him in qualifying 13-9. Lost in the races mostly due to better luck for Russell. Still Russell did very well and much better than Bottas would have. Not at Hamilton’s level yet but should surpass him soon since Lewis isn’t getting any younger.
