Lewis Hamilton had a titanic championship battle with Max Verstappen in 2021. They had several clashes, though they never came together for an accident until Silverstone. Hamilton’s former teammate Heikki Kovalainen spoke about why these collisions are happening between Hamilton and Verstappen. The duo collided for the fourth time in 2 seasons recently in Brazil.

“I think it was a conscious decision – not to have an accident, but to go all the way if they were wheel to wheel.”

The Finnish driver stated, “I haven’t discussed it with Lewis, and I don’t think he would admit it, but I think at Silverstone he decided he was tired of avoiding the collisions that Max was looking for and that he was going to set a limit this time.

Kovalainen believes that neither of the two wishes to concede the corner while racing each other on track. He pointed out how Verstappen’s approach is different while racing Charles Leclerc.
