I’m just hungry to win”- Fernando Alonso. Have you ever seen a driver with as much fire as Fernando Alonso has? The sheer will to race and win is indescribable. Despite already touching the mid-40s, Alonso just seems to be a new hot rookie on the scene. But an F1 pundit has now come out to suggest that Alonso played it safe by signing the Aston Martin deal, making things boring for the fans. But how?

Fernando Alonso‘s career moves have been questionable over the years. Especially making the F1 comeback with Alpine. However, the move he made to Aston Martin is arguably the only move that has paid any rewards in the last decade for the Spaniard. But still, Fernando has not won a race in over a decade now.

And with the driver market going crazy and so many seats being available, why did Fernando Alonso sign with Aston Martin only? Well, Damon Hill and Pedro De La Rosa think that Alonso trusts the Aston Martin vision, where the new factory and wind tunnel are coming up, and also the Honda partnership for the new regulations starting in 2026. Lawrence Barretto also suggested that Aston Martin serves Alonso’s best interest.

Lawrence Barretto speaking on the Race F1 podcast said, “I think Fernando realized pretty quickly that although plenty of seats were available at teams at that moment. At the minute, Aston Martin does genuinely represent the best spot for him. I think he made a few wrong moves in his career. And he’s in a team that’s going in the right direction, doing everything behind him as a driver and giving him everything he needs to succeed and get that 33rd win.”

Barretto continued, “When you weigh it from that perspective, it became clear that Mercedes and Red Bull weren’t too keen on getting that deal done that quickly.” Ben Anderson then talked about how there’s going to be fewer team shuffles now that Alonso has signed with AMR and said, “It’s the safe choice, the logical choice. A little bit boring for us because it would’ve been great to see him in Red Bull, up against Max Verstappen.”

Fernando Alonso was in talks with multiple teams, as he himself suggested, but his heart made him stay at Aston Martin.

Fernando Alonso offered an ambassadorial role

Fernando Alonso after signing the Aston Martin deal suggested that this is the longest contract that he’s ever signed in his career and that it’s now a lifetime project for him. Probably some sort of ambassadorial role has been offered to Alonso, which he couldn’t turn down. Despite rumors of being in talks with Red Bull and Mercedes, Alonso didn’t wait for talks to advance with other teams and signed with Lawrence Stroll and Co.

Explaining why he signed with Aston Martin and talking about contract talks with other teams, Alonso said, “At the end, it was also the best and the most, I felt the most wanted in Aston Martin. All the other conversations were just light and never came to any conclusions or something like that. Maybe more time was needed all these kinds of things. While in Aston, it was a clear desire to work together, which was the same that I had. That’s why it came very easy.”
