If there’s one man who has the bragging right to talk about Michael Schumacher‘s legacy in Formula 1, it’s none other than Fernando Alonso. Alonso, who is incredibly famous for stopping the incredible run of Schumacher with two back-to-back championships in 2005 and 2006, knows how the GOAT [Greatest of All Time] system works. For the last few years, the F1 community has been in doubt over the GOAT of the sport, but there’s hardly been any concrete answer. Now, in 2023, Alonso knows who’s the GOAT of F1 and how it works.

Talking about this, in a recently published report by Aston Martin, Alonso said, “Nobody knows the answer to that question. Every season we keep changing opinions. We thought for many years that Michael Schumacher was unbeatable and had maybe reached a level that no one had in the history of Formula One.”

“But, throughout the history of the sport, we’ve seen different drivers dominating – it’s impossible to compare them,” further stated the former Alpine driver. Alonso has two world championships under his belt, while Schumacher has seven. Interestingly, both raced for Ferrari, but, of course, at different times.

Factually, Fernando Alonso has hardly been a part of the GOAT debate. While Schumacher has been the driver with the most number of F1 titles for years, Lewis Hamilton joined him in 2020. With both having seven F1 titles each, it’s hardly possible to declare who’s the best of them all.

I’m never demotivated.” Thanks to his motivation, despite having a year full of difficulties with reliability in Alpine in 2022, Alonso still managed to finish in the top ten in the driver’s standings.
