Fernando Alonso’s Ex-Boss Snaps Him Back to Reality as “Rampant” Max Verstappen Hailed Despite Aston Martin’s Huge Step Up

Red Bull is having a banger of an F1 season. They have won 8 out of 8 races this year and still don’t face a significant challenge that could stop them. The antagonist in their story seems to be missing. But the protagonist, Max Verstappen has won six out of those eight races. And joining him on the podium consistently is a very happy and content Fernando Alonso. However, Alonso’s ex-boss at Renault has lately returned to F1 and has given a reality check to him while showering praise on Verstappen.
At 18 years and 227 days old, Verstappen won the 2016 Spanish GP and became the youngest F1 race winner. Since then, he has been Red Bull‘s number 1 driver. At the Canadian GP this year, he equaled Ayrton Senna’s record of 41 race victories in F1. Moreover, he got Red Bull its 100th victory in F1. The closest he has to a competitor right now is Aston Martin’s Alonso.
But as per Former Benetton and Renault F1 chief, Flavio Briatore, the Dutchman cannot be stopped. Briatore said, as quoted by Formulapassion.it, “At the Canadian Grand Prix the usual absolute supremacy of a driver, Max Verstappen, was staged.” Flavio cited how even Checo Perez in similar machinery is not able to match Max. Thus, Fernando & Aston’s chances seem even bleak.

He concluded, “Now we await the next grands prix, we wait for Ferrari to continue on this path, hoping that Aston Martin will close the gap with Red Bull even if the world championship seems to me already assigned to a rampant Max Verstappen”.

Briatore is not the only person hailing Verstappen’s dominant performances. Even Christian Horner has confidently said that the Dutchman is now in a league of his own.

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner is probably the happiest man in Red Bull right now. He has been leading Red Bull ever since their debut in F1 in 2005. He has witnessed and been a part of all the highs and lows that the team has faced. While his claim of Verstappen being an all-time great may not be liked by many, still it has substance now with statistical backing.
After the record-breaking victory in Canada, Horner said, “What we’re witnessing with Max is the emergence of another mega talent and you can start to talk about him in the same sentence as the greats now, having matched Ayrton Senna.” He further added, saying that at the young age of 25, Verstappen has achieved a very rare feat.
