Fernando Alonso Expects Mick to Revive Schumacher Name in F1 Through 2022 Campaign

Fernando Alonso has talked about Mick Schumacher lately. The two-times world champion has praised the junior Schumacher in an interview. Both Fernando Alonso and Mick Schumacher are active drivers this season.

Fernando has expressed his liking towards Mick as he went on to say, “I think he has a great future.” The Spaniard has fought bitter championship battles with Michael Schumacher from his early days. Now, he will drive alongside his son Mick this season. Alonso drives for the French team Alpine while Mick is teamed with the American team Haas.

Talking about Mick in an interview with RTL, The former Ferrari driver has conveyed, “This year everything is new, the Haas could be a competitive car. If that happens, I think Mick will show more of what he is capable of. I think he has a great future and not because the Schumacher name is on his helmet.”

Mick has proven in the different categories that he has the talent, the natural talent. I think it would be very special for the sport to see another Schumacher on the podium, or finally winning a race, fighting for the championship. That’s something great and a very nice story for F1. I hope it happens soon for him [Mick] and for the sport.”, the 2005 and 2006 F1 winner further stated.

Expectations from the 2022 season from Fernando Alonso and Mick Schumacher

Fernando Alonso has done quite well in his last season. The 40-year-old picked up 81 points in 2021 and finished at P10. With only one podium in his bag, he played a big role in helping his teammate Esteban Ocon achieve a Grand Prix victory by keeping Lewis Hamilton at bay. Fans expect more from one of the legends of the sport this season.

Mick on the other hand is yet to taste a championship point. The 22-year-old has made his debut with Haas last season. As Fernando stated, Mick Schumacher is indeed very talented. His performances in Formula 3 and Formula 2 are proof of that. Some F1 fans allege that he got his seat because of his father. However, many believe he is the future champion. It’ll be interesting to see if he can cope with the pressure and live up to his name in near future.
