Fernando Alonso has been really competitive since the beginning of the 2022 season. But he has little to show for it in terms of results and points, as he has been massively unlucky. One of the biggest opportunities that he missed was due to his qualifying crash in Australia.

He was on an outstanding lap that would have got him a second-row start for the GP. But he crashed in the final sector and injured his hands. Since then, he has been driving in pain. He reveals he needs to rest his hand to reduce the pain.

Fernando Alonso reveals the remedy to ease the pain in his hands

The Alpine driver mentioned that he might have to stop racing in F1 for a couple of months. But this seems impossible for the two-time world champion, as he has to race in the sport almost every two weeks.

“Bones, ligaments, tendons, everything is a mess at the moment. I need to stop F1 for two or three months. There is no surgery, nothing to do. Just rest. And unfortunately, every two weeks I have to drive! I try to rest at home, but it will take a few months,” said the Alpine driver.

Alonso can rest for two or three months and give the reins of his car to reserve driver Oscar Piastri. But that might not be an option for him as he is fighting for his position in F1 for the next season.

How did the Spanish driver injure his hands?

The Spanish driver was pushing the Alpine to the absolute maximum. But approaching one of the last corners on the track, the hydraulics in the car failed. In his desperation to steer the car from the gravel, Fernando injured his hands as his car hit the wall.

“I’m fine. Obviously yesterday I held the steering until the last moment before the crash, just to save the front wing. But I had no power steering at that moment, we had nothing. It was an extension of the thumbs, so it is a little bit painful now, but it’s going to be OK for the race,” said Fernando after the crash.

Hopefully, the Spanish driver can have a little bit of rest to ease the pain in his hands. One can only assume how he would have been performing if he was able to give his 100%.
