Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso, two of the oldest drivers currently racing on the Formula 1 grid, have had ecstatic careers to look back at and cherish.
But, having been colleagues for over a decade, one might wonder why pretty much nobody has come forward and put up a comparison between the duo.
Well, considering Alonso and Raikkonen never really challenged each other over all these years, there have hardly been comparisons spurting between the two. But, well, here’s Nico Rosberg, using his former F1 colleague, Romain Grosjean, to ignite the debate.

The German, during an interview with the ex-Haas F1 driver, questioned who he would choose as the fastest driver between Alonso and Raikkonen. If not all, we’re quite certain that most of the fans would choose the 2-time Renault world champion.
Interestingly, Grosjean ended up choosing Raikkonen over Alonso.
Why Grosjean chose Kimi Raikkonen over Fernando Alonso
It does come as a bit of a shock that the French lad chose Raikkonen over Alonso. But, here’s why he actually did it. Although Grosjean acknowledged that Alonso owns much superior qualifying pace, he opined Raikkonen is always the best when it came to race pace.
“I think the faster would be Alonso over one lap. Over a race distance, Kimi always would find a solution to go fast. Whatever would happen, he would always go fast in a race,” Grosjean told Rosberg.
Grosjean further opened up about how his and Raikkonen’s opinion would vary after a session on the track, back when they raced for Lotus Renault.

“He would just drive and say, ‘Yeah, the car was okay’. And you’re like, ‘No, the car was not okay’. You know, just understeering, oversteering, whatever. ‘Ah, it was okay’,” Grosjean mimicked the last Ferrari world champion.
Overall, it is quite an interesting pick from Grosjean given the choice had a driver like Alonso, who recently secured a podium in Qatar, his first podium in 9 years.
Raikkonen, on the other hand, hasn’t had a good run in the last two seasons. But, we can’t blame him, can we? Alfa Romeo has had an awful stint and Raikkonen just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevertheless, a great farewell, as he is set to end his F1 career from where he started.
