In 2021, Lawrence Stroll set out a target for his team that they would hope to achieve in 5 years. That aim was to fight for the championship. That was not just a statement to get fans excited. Aston Martin has worked on it over the years, showing their intent through concrete actions. One of those moves was the inclusion of Sebastian Vettel on the team. While the German could not win any race during his two years with the Silverstone-based team, he did put the team on the path to success in the future, which Fernando Alonso will reap the benefits of. Performance Director Tom McCullough, however, regrets not being able to reciprocate that of Seb.

The 2022 car regulations left many teams struggling to adapt. Among them was Aston Martin, who, despite all their efforts, finished only 7th in the championship. That is perhaps what prompted Vettel to call the time off on his glorious F1 career. Despite that, Lawrence Stroll and the team did not lose heart and managed to rope in experienced campaigner Fernando Alonso. Moreover, they have a state-of-the-art facility in the making at Silverstone. One that their new technical director Dan Fallows is really looking forward to seeing completed soon.

Speaking at the launch of their F1 car, McCullough said, “With Sebastian, whenever we gave him a car capable of a strong result, you had that confidence he was going go out there and deliver, which he did for us.”

“We didn’t always quite give him a good enough car, [and] it’s a shame that he won’t be here to reap the reward of some of his hard work over the last two years.”

Ever since Alonso’s arrival, the team has picked up a new vigor. That is definitely an influence that the Spaniard carries in his personality.

Fernando started his career in F1 more than two decades ago. In all these years, what hasn’t changed is his will to win. Even as a 41-year-old, he is as good as any. Moreover, his experience is second to none on the current grid.
