Fernando Alonso has fought many battles over the years. From battling his teammate Lewis Hamilton to fighting against Sebastian Vettel, Alonso has had a fair share of worthy battles in F1. However, Alonso wrestling against Michael Schumacher to win his maiden Championship is perhaps the greatest fight of his career.
The Alpine driver ended Michael Schumacher’s dominance of winning the title 5 times on the spin with Ferrari.

As F1 returns to Japan after a break of 2 years, it is only fair Alonso reminisces about one of the best overtakes to occur in the sport. He shared one of his most daring overtakes on his Instagram story. Alonso was always one of the most fearless drivers on the grid, and he stood true to his reputation.
In the 2005 Japanese GP, Fernando Alonso pulled off a miraculous overtake on Schumacher. On the 130R of the Suzuka Circuit, Schumacher and Alonso were engaged in an intriguing battle. Alonso had the superior car, but the brilliance of Michael’s defense made it difficult for the Spaniard to overtake.
What followed next would bring the entire F1 world into a state of shock. In a move that defied death, Alonso picked up some slipstream at the spoon corner, followed Michael brilliantly, and overtook the German on the outside of the 130R.
Fernando announced his arrival among the big names with that overtake and hasn’t looked back ever since. Furthermore, he went on to win two successive championships and became the driver who ended Schumacher’s winning streak.

Fernando Alonso’s racing partner for the Minardi team, Tarso Marques regards the Spaniard as the best driver in the world. According to Marques, Fernando had the ability to perform miracles in a car. His adaptability was one of the key aspects as to why he has been so successful over the years.

Marques believes that Alonso has been unlucky in his career with his moves and situation. He said, “I think he is the best driver in the world. He was at the time he was winning with Renault and I think he is today. I’m sure that if he was driving a Red Bull he would be world champion again”.
