Fernando Alonso made a triumphant return to the sport in the 2021 season. The two-time world champion finished in P10 in the championship and got his first podium since 2014. The Alpine driver suffered a setback before making his comeback last year as he had a bike accident.

Alonso suffered several injuries and was left with a broken jaw. After the surgery, he had metal plates in his jaw throughout the season. But before the start of the 2022 season, Alonso got another surgery to remove the metal plate. This meant that he could not race with his Alpine teammate Esteban Ocon in the Virtual Le Mans 24 hour race.

I wanted to be part of it together with Esteban Ocon: Fernando Alonso

The Alpine team took part in the Virtual Le Mans 24 hour race. Alpine junior Victor Martins replaced Alonso and partnered Ocon in the event. The former world champion mentioned he was looking forward to the event.

“I had an operation last week and was in the hospital for a while. Now I am recovering from the operation. I couldn’t participate this time but of course, I’m following the race, especially Team Alpine Sport with car number 36,” said Alonso.

“It’s a great event, and I wanted to be part of it too, together with my teammate, Esteban Ocon. We wanted to be in the same car but because I couldn’t make it due to the procedure, I think he also postponed his participation until later. But I think we will make up for it one day,” said Fernando.

Hopefully, Fernando Alonso recovers well from his surgery to get his preparation for the 2022 season started. It is an important season for him as he hopes that he could have a car to challenge for the title.
