During the AMR launch, Fernando Alonso was asked a lot of questions about the car, his future, and the biggest thing happening in F1; Lewis Hamilton’s switch. When the questions about Lewis Hamilton started to pop up, Alonso was direct to say “I didn’t pay too much attention.” He explained that he learned about the news a day late as he was busy with training and missed out on the main chaos of it.

But the thing that caught everyone’s attention was when Lewis Hamilton‘s statement, “I now have the chance to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red,” was brought up, Alonso had something to say about it. Implying that Hamilton made the statement just because of his move, Alonso said, “It was not his childhood dream 12 months ago, no? Or two months ago, I guess. It was a different dream.”

This blew up on Alonso as he was called out by fans, with reports of Hamilton revealing his childhood dream in the past. Back in 2015, Lewis Hamilton spoke to Journalist Matt Bishop. During the interview, upon being asked if he would stay at Mercedes until retirement Hamilton said, “Well, what I’d really like to do, one day, is drive for Ferrari.” Explaining his appeal to join the team, in 2015 Hamilton also explained “That would be a great way to end my F1 career, wouldn’t it? To win championships for McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari?”

However, while speaking about Hamilton at Ferrari, Alonso also said, “I hope he enjoys the experience. I think it’s a very special team,” hoping for the best for his rival. While Alonso has stirred the pot building up to the new season, Aston Martin has launched their new challenger for the 2024 season.
