The last race of the 2022 F1 season saw Sebastian Vettel take his seat as a Formula 1 driver for the final time. As the German moved away from Aston Martin, his role was taken up by another world champion, Fernando Alonso. Since the Spanish driver is all set to replace the German next year, the British team executive revealed how Alonso can reap what Vettel sow.

The four-time world champion was with the Silverstone-based team for two years. In these two years, the former Red Bull star has done enough for the team as Aston Martin’s performance director Tom McCullough was full of praise for him.

Tom McCullough said, “The driver is one of the best sensors. We’ve got some very good tools and software, but the driver input is key. He’s very motivational, he’s a lovely human being. He pushes everyone in every area, and he’s helped us lift our game.”

“Unfortunately, we’ve not quite given him a car good enough for him to challenge further up the grid, but we’ve definitely learned a lot from him and improved. I think, hopefully, in the next few years, we’re going to see the results of that,” further stated the Aston Martin executive.

This means that the new recruit Alonso can bank on the efforts made by Vettel in the team.

Vettel spent the 2021 and 2022 F1 seasons with Aston Martin. In 44 races, the former Ferrari star picked up 80 points and a podium he took part. The German finished in P12 in both seasons.

Alonso will partner with Lance Stroll in the team and will expect to bank on the expertise left by Vettel in the team. Moreover, the Spanish driver will also expect to face as few retirements as possible, unlike with Alpine this year.
